The Clubmaker’s Review #1: Sun Mountain Micro Cart

New products, Reviews No Comments

I will be reviewing a piece of golf equipment each month, clubs, bags, carts, balls etc. Be prepared for some brutally honest opinions, some testing and pictures.

Sun Mountain Micro Cart:

This month the sun mountain micro cart goes under the microscope. The micro cart is the next generation in push carts. Weighing in at 12.5 pounds and occupying a folded area of 24 in x 16 in x 12 in  this easy to open cart make be the next choice for golfers in need of a push cart.

Compare the micro cart  vs. the V1 weighing in at 17.55 lbs and the V2 model at 20 lbs and occupying a folded space of  37in x16 in x 13 in and 37 x 16 x 15.75 respectively.  The Micro cart is a new design of cart that relies on 4 non-inflatable maintenance free tires instead of the popular 3 tires. The 4 wheel model provides stability the 3 wheeler cannot. However, maneuverability might be in question. When a full bag is place on the cart I don’t think you can tell the difference. The micro cart has many of the same benefits such as an umbrella holder, net, storage compartment and drink holder etc. Missing will be the ability to add a seat, the handle height adjustability and tire pump (doesn’t need it).

The micro cart has two designated handle positions where the V1 and V2 models have multiple height selections.  The golf bag tends to sit more upright in the micro cart than its older brothers. I would consider this a plus. I sometime run into the clanking driver when using the V1 model.

In most cases in the golf industry “new release” is synonymous with “more money.” However this cart will not make the wallet scream for mercy as the Micro cart comes with same price tag as the V1 model. Who says technology has to cost more.

Pros:                                                    Cons:

Very light weight                                limited height adjustability

4 wheels for stability                           no seat accessory

Doesn’t need a pump

Better design for storage of stuff

Bag stands up better

Takes up less space

Has most of the same accessories as

Early models.

Same price as the early model

Conclusion: If you are in the market for a new golf cart, seriously consider the micro cart. Sun Mountain is also coming out with a golf bag specifically for the micro cart bag to replace the MPB and it’s very cool too. A combo may score some savings
